If you are new to my content; hello hello, I’m Tatiana, your social media strategist here to shed light on the details you were unfairly taught to ignore. And I’ll be here mentally handing you some spiked eggnog along the way.

The Big Lie

Before we really dive in… there’s a lens you must look through first.

When it comes to an impactful social media strategy and the best times to post, you have been led to believe in one-sided irrelevant content that doesn’t actually serve you. Those missing details are a core piece to creating a personalized strategy… but they tend to bring boredom and complication. Because of this, many influencers and social media experts leave them out.

Some examples of these common half-truths are:

  • The best time to post on social media is at __ (time) on __ (day)
  • If you are not posting at __ (time) every day, then you’re doing it wrong
  • Never post on __ (day) because it’s the lowest day of engagement

ANY TIME you see this type of ^ content ^ know that they are taking the average of all the accounts online and twisting it into a fact so it’s relatable to everyone.

Think about your social presence as if you were hosting a pizza party. What toppings do you order? Pepperoni? Cheese? Maybe a Combo?

THAT is how most people approach social media. They settle for the safest bet.

Now imagine that you all meet at a create-your-own pizza spot. Would everyone make it pepperoni? NO! They’ll pick their favorite toppings.

THAT is the approach you must take when it comes to your social content. You must find your favorite toppings… Once you do, your social media will naturally reach greater heights.

The Best Social Media Strategy for When to Post

First off, if you are stuck, unsure, or just frozen and panicking because of your schedule, then I’ll give you a quick… cheat code if you will:

  • Choose one of these sites right now, as you read this:
  • Hootsuite, Hubspot, or SproutSocial
  • Google the site you chose above with “best times to post” after it
  • Then click the link that takes you to their blog post
  • Implement whatever it says

You WILL 100% need to adjust this mini social media strategy down the road but to get you moving, screw it. Pick one and go with it.

Now… let’s go ahead and get into the nitty-gritty details.

The Best Time and Day to Post on Social Media – FOR REAL THIS TIME

You’re gunna want to sit down for this next part. And while we’re at it, let me go ahead and top off your glass.

There is no such thing as a “best time” to post on social media that works for everyone. The one-size-fits-all approach… simply does not work. Every single brand, industry, business, and target market calls for unique timing.

  • Even if you come across a business incredibly similar to your own… your timing won’t be the exact same. Crazy huh?

Each journey has its own rhythm to follow, but remember, you don’t have to navigate this path alone. I’m here to help guide you in discovering what timing works best.

Finding the Best Time

To really find your perfect timing we must inspect your analytics. And remember, even the platforms that fall under the same umbrella of ownership have a unique algorithm.

So how can you find the best time to post specifically? I promise it isn’t a lot of steps, it can just add up when you’re doing this for each platform.

  • Get into the analytics on each platform. If you have other scheduling tools like Sendible, Flick.Tech, or Metricool, look at those too. The more the merrier
  • From the analytics, jot down the time when your audience is most active
  • Pay attention to the time zone as not all analytics will automatically sync to yours
  • You’ll want to post an hour or two before you see that spike in activity
  • Look through this every time you batch out your content.
  • I currently create my content a month in advance but if you post weekly then get in the habit of doing this every single time

Understanding Your Target Market Even Better

What are your audience’s habits? Think in terms of specific niches, timing, and platforms:

  • Niche Specific:
  • DIY crafters love using YouTube & Pinterest due to tutorials and step-by-step instructions.
  • Those in the fitness industry enjoy Instagram due to its aesthetically pleasing imagery and short-form videos
  • Timing Specific:
  • Those who work a 9-5 often get online during their lunch breaks and after work
  • Parents jump online based on their kids’ schedules such as once they leave for school and after dinner
  • Platform Specific:
  • Business owners frequent LinkedIn as it’s made for professionals to connect
  • Photographers often utilize Instagram as it is heavily dependent on visuals

Give More Attention to Your Analytics

What matters to you in relation to your goals? We went into detail about this in my other blog post Prep Your Business for Social Media Success: 3 Key Details.

  • Keep measuring the specific metrics of your choosing throughout your entire journey. Measure it even when you change your strategy over time.
  • Stick with a social media strategy for at least one season before altering it completely. You want to give the algorithms time to recognize you.
  • And: It isn’t a bad thing to wait a bit longer for more data to come. Patience is better than irrationality.

How Often to Post

Now that you have a solid approach to finding your best days and time to post, let’s get into frequency.

To start off, getting in touch with your lovely target market is crucial. Understand what it is that brings you all together.

Are you a meme account designed to give bits of serotonin throughout the day? If so, post constantly. 10 times a day isn’t too much when you know your followers have a habit of binge-scrolling your content.

Are you a spiritual, wild account designed to awaken that inner child? If so, you can post fleetingly and that’s perfectly acceptable! One of my favorite accounts posts only twice a week. And they can do so because every post is meant to ignite deep contemplation… and that can be draining for an audience.

Get Selfish With It

Figure out a posting schedule that matches YOU. And this goes above all else.

If posting every day will push you to exhaustion, then forcing yourself to do it will lead you to burnout. Yes, you want to post and be relevant. At the same time, if you KNOW you can’t sustain this social media strategy then you are setting yourself up for failure. There’s no medal for pushing yourself too far.

Figure something out that you can maintain. Once you grow larger and start hiring a social media team, THEN you can worry about showing up more. Until that time, relax, you’ll do just fine.

A Lovely Little Thing Called Value

Alright, here we are. The last tidbit of advice. Value. Whatever your social media strategy is, whether you own a shoe store, spa, or library… give value.

Social media is all about creating relationships,
not commercials and ads

Understand what it is you bring to the table and why people care. Who the heck is listening to you and why are they listening? Answer that question and keep on delivering more!

Gone are the days when you can solely focus on selling to get traction. Being ‘too salesy’ pushes people in the other direction and leaves you completely irrelevant.

And So It Is…

The tough love and missing pieces to your puzzle that no one talks about. Using these strategies will keep you in tune with your tribe and will keep you ahead of the ever-evolving algorithms of each platform.

I am rooting for you and hey, now that the tough love part is through, we can enjoy our ever-so-fancy spiked eggnog.
